Crowne Plaza Jerusalem Hotel Review

This article is part of my trip report 'Westward bound'. The trip report index will appear below once all posts have been published.
The Crowne Plaza is one of the few chain hotels in Jerusalem. It's located just off the freeway and should be easy enough to find. Unfortunately that did not hold true for my GPS. It send me into a pretty desperate neighborhood in the West Bank instead. It's not a place you want to be seen in a rental car :(
Once I found the hotel the first impression was rather bad. The building is old and tired from the inside and outside. And the lobby transports you back into the 70s.
Check-in was friendly and rather quick (some hotels have the habit of copying all your information on the slowest copy machine ever invented).
No room upgrade or lounge access was available to me as a IHG Platinum. However the Internet was free (and fast).
The room was really tired and the bathrooms kept yelling 'renovation' at me. There is little the housekeeping staff can do to keep up with room deterioration. The bed was really good though :)
The hotel is just 10 minutes walking to the main market Mahane Yehuda in Jerusalem which offers tons of fresh food and small coffee shops/ restaurants. From there it is 20 minutes walk to the old town of Jerusalem.
The hotel has a gym and pool (that I did not use). Also I did not eat breakfast.
Jerusalem does not offer much of a choice if you like chain hotels. The Crowne Plaza is a tired, rather badly managed property that leaves many things to be desired. With room rates hovering above $200 it is also not exactly a steal. However there aren't many chain alternatives in Jerusalem so you may need to make a 'deal with the devil' here.
