Holiday Inn San Francisco Civic Center Review

Civic Center in San Francisco is not known for being San Francisco's best neighborhood. The area has a big homeless problem. But it also has a number of up and coming nightlife spots and it's close to Union Square.
The hotel seems to cater mainly to tourists visiting San Francisco. Check-in was very prompt and courteous. The Internet is free throughout the hotel and pretty speedy.
I asked for a room on a higher floor and that wish was granted. The overall appearance of the hotel is more like Marriott and certainly one of the better Holiday Inn's you come across in the US.
The rooms are very clean, have a good sized bathroom and very comfortable beds.
Try to get a room that is as far away as possible from 8th Street. It gets pretty busy during rush hour and the windows provide only minimal noise protection. San Francisco roads are notorious for their sorry state they are in.
The noise situation greatly reduces the value of this otherwise pretty impressive domestic Holiday Inn.
Union Square and other downtown options are walking distance from the hotel. It's safe during the day but you want to use a taxi at night.
I think the hotel is a good choice for San Francisco. Average rates are $200-$250 which isn't cheap. If you can find it last minute in the $100+ range I'd be happy to return.
