Review: Westin San Francisco Market Street

I spent a night at this property this week.
San Francisco hotels are pricey and this posh downtown hotel, which feels more like NYC than San Francisco, is no exception. Regular rates for weekdays in September are $299 plus. It's a category 5 hotel and available for 12,000 Starpoints. This makes it a rather good 3+ cent redemption.

Pros:
- very efficient check-in in less than 30s
- good breakfast options at the restaurant, lots of options for the Platinum breakfast amenity
- great location at Market and 3rd Street where SF's business heart beats
- fantastic views from the higher floors over SF, I could even see Alcatraz
- beds are fantastic (Westin Heavenly beds)
- rooms feel a bit more luxurious than most US hotels but just a bit
- staff is knowledgeable and friendly but more 'east coast' friendly
Cons:
- $48 valet parking is too expensive
- no lounge for VIP members in this hotel although it is a city business hotel
- few suites available, making an upgrade pure luck
- ongoing renovations making the lobby area a construction site
- while the Internet is fast the connection keeps breaking every 10-15 minutes, hard to work with
If you have business in the area and want to explore San Francisco's sights this is a good option. It's definitely not a fantastic property though...
