What do you think of the desert? Heat, spiders, maybe an oasis with palm trees?

Well, the Hyatt Regency Resort in Indian Wells (20 minutes outside of Palm Springs) is a fantastic oasis. To start with, my conclusion - yes, it's now one of my favorite resorts in the US. Let me tell you why.

You may be aware that Hyatt staff go through more intense training than other chains and the emphasis is on friendliness (rather than pure efficiency). That's also the vibe at this resort - the staff were warm and friendly without fail the whole time I stayed at the resort. It really stood out and everyone incl. housekeeping chimed in.

The standard rooms are huge and look more like Junior Suites. There is a large bed and divider with a sofa and desk.

The facilities are huge; the main building will challenge your walking skills and there are number of private villas to rent as well that give even more privacy. The hotel claims to have seven pools. Only 3 of them are somewhat large though one is an adult only pool. Besides a private event one night, the pools were quiet and never crowded. There are a number of entertainment options at the pool incl. bicycles and tennis as well as ping pong.

Given the 110 degree heat, anything but swimming in the pools seemed ludicrous!

The pool water is salty and not as chlorinated which is something your eyes and skin will thank you for.

Besides the really modern lobby, I also liked the outside lobby bar with comfy sofas and a very chill though upscale vibe. The food served for lunch was as good as it gets in a hotel.

The WiFi was fast near the main building but slow at the pools. Another router would be a good idea.

The hotel is located 20 minutes outside Palm Springs and the surrounding areas just feature a number of strip malls, so renting a car (or bringing your own) is a good idea.

All in all, it's a great desert oasis with a fantastic golf course right at the property! Loved my time there.

Room rates hover around $139 for the summer months but are more likely to be in the $200+ range for the winter months.
