The Sheraton Addis Ababa is one of the most important landmarks in the city, but it is well hidden in a compound that is close to the city center and is heavily fortified.
It was built in 1998 for a reported $200 million in construction costs.
The Sheraton Addis Ababa seems to look more like a palace than a hotel. The style and quality of the building is astonishing.
Even more impressive are the gardens that open out to the courtyard and the terraced swimming pools. The hotel reminded me of an old-school version of the Grand Hyatt Dubai - a beautiful, family-friendly property in an environment that is neither.
I feel that it is a great sight to behold in the city of Addis Ababa - in fact, it's not to be missed.
I did not stay at the hotel - frankly I was too cheap for the 25,000 Starpoints or $450 that the hotel charges per night.
