DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur Review
We already knew the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur is clearly one (or the) best hotel deal in Kuala Lumpur (and maybe in Asia) if you have a modest amount of hotel points.
Cash rates at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur usually hover around $100 but the generous Cash & Points rate is just 4,000 Hilton HHonors points and MYR 110. MYR 110 are just $26!
As a Hilton Gold or Diamond you will get access to the Club Lounge in the 34th floor. The lounge serves breakfast (you can also eat the full breakfast downstairs) and a generous happy hour with snacks and alcohol (alcohol is VERY expensive in KL).
5 years after the hotel opening the rooms have started to show some wear and tear now and aren't too special. If you get upgraded to a suite the rooms suddenly seem really impressive though.
Now the Doubletree also has a pool and a pretty well equipped gym. The Intermark building (which is it part of) houses a number of restaurant, several bars and good third wave coffee shop (called Grizzly). It's hard to get out of the building with so many options!
As in my prior review from two years ago I really liked the lounge and the whole the hotel. Not much has changed thankfully.
Since I am a Hilton Gold (not a Hilton Diamond anymore) I used the Free Regular Internet which was horrible - it did work most of the time but the throughput was often minimal. I'm not sure that would have been better with the Premium Internet as it uses the same infrastructure. I just walked down to Grizzly which has a snappy Internet connection.
I found the service staff (especially at the Executive Lunge) to be impeccable the room refreshing and the food pretty good.
At check out I felt really bad - it was just too cheap. 21,000 Hilton Honors points and $200 for a whole week?! I value HHonors points at about 0.7 cents - so that s about $350 for a whole week incl. breakfast and generous snacks plus alcohol every day - simply incredible!
