Hyatt Regency Amsterdam Review – Business as usual…
The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is located just about 15-10 minutes walking distance away from the Old Town of Amsterdam. Rates were high when I booked topping out at $400 for the busy pre -NYE nights.
The hotel has very understated look from the outside and it is easy to miss if you drive by. It looks onto a small pond in the back and is very quiet towards the back. Our room looked towards that side and no noise ever entered the room.
We had arrived just before 3 PM and were told that the room wasn't ready. All would we need to do was wait 15 minutes at the Executive Lounge. However since we'd rather explored the city anyways; so we simply stored our bags. Still it is a little odd that no rooms are ready so close to the guaranteed check-in deadline.
Check-in was friendly in typical Hyatt manner when we returned later that night. Our bags had already been transferred to the room.
The room was pretty functional with a newly done bathroom with a huge walk-in rain shower and separate toilet.
There wasn't much of an interior design but everything seemed to work exactly as outlined. The Internet was speed at 8 Mbit though- I expected 20-30 Mbit in bandwidth-crazy Netherlands. The bed was hard enough even for my mattress preferences.
The AC was off just changing it by a degree produced either wild heating or cooling for 45+ minutes until it would settle down. It was barely audible though and certainly had enough power to heat or cool the room.
There is an Indonesian restaurant in the lobby and a nice looking bar with a pool table. We completely missed breakfast by waking up around noon only.
In sum this is a great Business Hotel in a good location in Amsterdam that works just as you'd expect. However do not expect any charm or atmosphere - this isn't included in your ($400!) package here...
