Air Mauritius Economy Class Review: A Short Hop from Mauritius to Reunion on the A330neo
Air Mauritius, theflagship carrierof Mauritius, a picturesque island country located in theIndian Ocean, offers flights to several destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia. I recently had the opportunity to fly withAir Mauritiuson a short trip from Mauritius to Reunion, a popular French overseas territory known for its stunning landscapes and tourist attractions. My review focuses on theeconomy classexperience aboard the A330neo, which happens to be the newest addition to Air Mauritius' fleet.
Air Mauritius Economy Class Review: A Short Hop from Mauritius to Reunion on the A330neo - Booking and Check-In
I booked my flight on airfrance.us - Air Mauritius and Air France operate a joint venture and aifrance.us happened to have the best rates.
I paid approximately $150 for a one-way ticket, which included 23 kg of checked luggage and 7 kg of carry-on baggage. I felt that's quite steep but you guessed it no other carriers run this route.
There was a huge line snaking through the Terminal for check in and the sole check-in agent completely overwhelmed. Since I had no bags I decided to use the rather clunky website but managed to get my boarding passes via email (the app never worked for me). Immigration and security had no trouble accepting my electronic boarding pass. Security and immigration were fast!

Air Mauritius Economy Class Review: A Short Hop from Mauritius to Reunion on the A330neo - Boarding and seats
Air Mauritius began boarding the flight around 40 minutes before the scheduled departure. There were no zones and the line was massive. I managed to board just after Business Class passengers (the Business Class cabin seemed completely empty).
Boarding was done in an orderly and efficient manner, and I was welcomed by the friendly and professional crew members at the entrance.
I got an entire row in the middle to myself. Most of the seats were taken and while that would have been a great 'poor man's Business Class experience I wanted to see more of the flight path.
The seat had a generous pitch of 31 inches, a width of 18 inches, and an adjustable headrest. It also featured a foldable tray table, apersonal reading light, a USB port, and a power outlet. The seats seemed brand new with no visible wear or stains. In fact the whole cabin seemed clean and brand new (like factory new).
The seatback had a large touchscreen monitor with a remote control conveniently located in the armrest. The monitor provided an extensive selection of movies, TV shows, music, games, and information, all with excellent picture and sound quality.
Air Mauritius Economy Class Review: A Short Hop from Mauritius to Reunion on the A330neo - The Flight
This is only a 45 minutes flight to begin with but it's science with a takeoff over the Mauritius lagoons, a right turn and long pass along the Southern coast of Mauritius and then a long descent into Reunion.
The on board cameras do a great job of giving you access to an outside view even without a window seat.
The flight attendants served a small pack of juice for everyone despite the short flying time.
Landing in Reunion came with a wild turn into to align with the runaway just a few miles away from the cliffs and a windy landing. The pilot definitely had fun that day! It seemed more akin a fighter jet flight path than a boring commercial airliner.
Air Mauritius Economy Class Review: A Short Hop from Mauritius to Reunion on the A330neo - In conclusion
This short flight was a good as it gets - great hardware, new seats, friendly flight attendants and a scenic flight path. The wild landing kept everyone on the edge of their seats! I wish the price would reflect the minimal distance a bit more but overall this was as good as it gets.
