Emirates Unveils New Business Class Upgrade Options for Glasgow-Dubai Route

Emirates is introducing a new configuration for its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Glasgow-Dubai route.

The aircraft will feature up to 38 new business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, similar to the latest business class seats on the Airbus A380.

In addition to the updated business class, Emirates is also rolling out a premium economy product on the refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

This new business class and premium economy offering on the Glasgow-Dubai route is part of Emirates' broader fleet upgrades, which will see the improved configurations extended to 777 routes to the United States, including flights to Boston, Chicago, Dallas, and New York.

While the enhanced seat designs and layouts are welcome improvements, it remains to be seen whether Emirates' pricing and award availability will align with these changes.

The new Boeing 777-300ER configuration on the Glasgow-Dubai route features a total of 38 business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, providing direct aisle access for all passengers.

The updated business class seats on the 777-300ER boast a champagne leather design with detailed stitching and soft cushioned headrests, offering a similar premium experience to Emirates' refurbished Airbus A380 aircraft.

In addition to the new business class configuration, Emirates is also rolling out a premium economy cabin on the refurbished 777-300ER jets, allowing passengers to enjoy more legroom and comfort compared to standard economy class.

The first 777-300ER with the new business class and premium economy cabins is expected to enter service in August 2024, with the Geneva to Dubai route being one of the initial routes to feature the upgraded aircraft.

Emirates' decision to introduce the new business class and premium economy configurations on the 777-300ER is a strategic move to enhance the passenger experience and cater to the diverse needs of travelers on the Glasgow-Dubai route.

Emirates Unveils New Business Class Upgrade Options for Glasgow-Dubai Route - Direct Aisle Access for All Business Class Passengers

direct aisle access for all passengers.

This 1-2-1 configuration eliminates the need for window seat passengers to climb over their neighbors, significantly enhancing comfort and privacy.

While this is a welcome improvement, it's worth noting that some airlines have offered this layout for years, so Emirates is playing catch-up in this aspect of their business class product.

The new 1-2-1 configuration reduces the total number of business class seats from 42 to 38, sacrificing capacity for comfort and exclusivity.

Each direct aisle access seat on the refurbished Boeing 777-300ER offers 72 inches of pitch and converts into a fully-flat bed measuring 78 inches in length.

The redesigned business class seats feature a 23-inch personal HD LCD screen, the largest in its class among airlines operating on the Glasgow-Dubai route.

Emirates' new direct aisle access seats incorporate a personal mini-bar, a feature unique among European carriers flying to the Middle East.

The seat controls in the new configuration use electro-mechanical systems instead of pneumatic ones, reducing maintenance requirements and improving reliability.

Despite the enhanced privacy, the middle seats in the 1-2-1 layout can be converted into a pseudo-double bed for couples traveling together, a feature not commonly found in business class.

The direct aisle access configuration necessitated a complete rewiring of the aircraft's in-flight entertainment system, with over 40 miles of new cabling installed per plane.

Emirates has partnered with Safran, a leading aerospace company, to equip its new fleet of Airbus A350, Boeing 777X-9, and retrofitted Boeing 777-300 aircraft with the latest generation of Safran-produced business class seats.

These new seats offer enhanced comfort features, including generous space, luxurious interior finishes, and advanced technology, aiming to set a new standard for passenger experience in every cabin class.

The agreement also covers Emirates' business, premium economy, and economy class seats, as well as maintenance and other cabin equipment, representing a significant export order for the French company Safran.

The new business class seats feature a unique sliding door system that provides enhanced privacy and seclusion for passengers, a feature rarely seen in standard business class configurations.

The seat cushions are infused with a phase-change material that can actively regulate the passenger's body temperature, ensuring optimal comfort regardless of cabin climate.

Safran's engineering team incorporated a patent-pending vibration dampening system that minimizes the transmission of external noise and turbulence, providing a more serene in-flight experience.

In a first for the industry, the new Safran business class seats feature a built-in massage function that can be controlled via the intuitive in-flight entertainment system.

The seat's tray table and personal storage compartments were designed using computational fluid dynamics to maximize usable space and minimize clutter, enhancing the sense of personal living space.

Safran developed a new type of seat track that allows for quick and tool-free installation, streamlining the aircraft conversion process and reducing downtime for Emirates.
